Sigma Alpha Lambda (ΣΑΛ) is a National Leadership and Honors Organization in the United States dedicated to developing the individual and serving the campus and community. Its mission is to recognize members for academic achievement, to engage members in service, and to develop member leadership skills.[1]
Membership
Sigma Alpha Lambda is dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development, and lifelong professional fulfillment. Membership in Sigma Alpha Lambda is open to all undergraduate students who meet the national requirements of sophomore classification or higher with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Membership is also open to graduate students who meet the GPA requirement for undergraduates.
Statement of purpose
The purpose of Sigma Alpha Lambda is:
- To engage university students, faculty, and staff as well as the surrounding community in meaningful, relevant service initiatives and raise awareness for worthwhile causes.
- To promote academic excellence at the chapter and national level and to encourage high academic achievement through participation in school-based mentoring programs.
- To promote an understanding of the service model of leadership, to educate on the philosophy of leading through service, and to develop leadership skills based on the principles of servant leadership.
- Shared values
- We treat all people with the highest level of dignity and respect.
- We respect the resources of the university, the chapter, our community, and the world around us.
- We encourage innovation, independent action, team spirit and personal growth in all our members.
- We promote camaraderie with our fellow students and an attitude of caring for all individuals in society.

- We operate our organization with the highest level of integrity and fiscal responsibility.
National Initiatives
Each year, Sigma Alpha Lambda undertakes two national initiatives which are coordinated by the National Office in conjunction with the local chapter. Each Fall, the students work together to fight hunger with SAL's Food Fight against Hunger. In the Spring, the main focus is Relay for Life.
