History

Sierra Trading Post was founded in Reno, Nevada in 1986 by Keith Richardson and his wife Bobbi, and was acquired by TJX Companies in 2012. The original location had 500 square feet (46 m2) of office space. The current locations have over 500,000 square feet (50,000 m2) of operating space. The business claims to hold to three guiding principles aimed at giving optimal customer service, maintaining low operating costs to keep customer savings higher, and "treat others as we would want to be treated." [3] On January 12, 2009, during the Financial crisis of 2007–2010 Sierra Trading Post laid off approximately 130 employees at the retail and outlet store and fulfillment center in Cheyenne, a first in the company's history.[4]

In December 2012, the company was sold to publicly traded TJX Companies (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Homegoods) for an estimated $200 million.[5]
