Siemomysł
Noble family House of Piast
Father Lestek
Died c.950–960

Siemomysł (died c.950–960[1]) was the third pagan Polans duke of the Piast dynasty, and the father of Poland's first historical ruler, Mieszko I. He was listed by Gallus Anonymous in his Gesta principum Polonorum and was the son of Lestek, the second known Duke of the Polans. According to Gallus' account and historical research, Siemomysł has been credited with leaving the lands of Polans, Goplans and Masovians to his son Mieszko I, who further expanded them during his reign.[2]

According to modern Polish historian Henryk Łowmiański he aided the Ukrani uprising against the Germans in 954 AD.

He supposely reigned from around 930 (some historians believe that he reigned from around 950). Siemomysł (in late historical literature we can find name: Ziemomysł) probably united lands of Polanie, Goplanie and Mazowszanie (but perhaps his father did it first). We don`t know where was he buried.

Siemomysł`s wife (or wives) are unknown. There is a theory that Włodzisław`s (prince of Lędzianie tribe) daughter could be Siemomysł`s wife, but we can`t verify this concepction, because there is no historical sources about this thing. Formerly it was thought that his wife was named Gorka, but Oswald Balzer refuted this view in 1895.
