Siaka Tiéné (born 22 February 1982) is an Ivorian footballer who currently plays as a left back and also play as a holding midfielder or winger for Ligue 1 club Montpellier HSC.
Career
He started his career at homeland club ASEC Abidjan, where he came through the famed youth academy that has produced so many of the Côte d'Ivoire national team of today, before he eventually moved abroad to play in the South African Premier Soccer League for Mamelodi Sundowns. In the summer of 2005 he made the move to Europe to play for French Ligue 1 club AS Saint-Étienne, staying there until October 2006. He joined Ligue 2 side Stade Reims on loan after being unable to get a place in the AS Saint-Étienne midfield. He returned to Saint-Étienne during the summer of 2007.
Montpellier HSC
On June 2013, he signed a contract with Montpellier HSC.[2]
International career
Tiéné has also played a part in the international scene for Côte d'Ivoire. He was a member of the Ivorian squad for the 2006 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, where the Elephants reached the final. Tiéné was in the starting line-up for the final, but the team were eventually overcome by hosts Egypt 4–2 in a penalty shoot-out. Tiéné was the only player in the Ivorian's African Cup of Nations team not to make it into the 2006 World Cup squad. He was replaced by Abdul Kader Keïta who plays for Ligue 1 club OSC Lille. His latest international call-up was for the 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar, where he started the match on the left wing. The Elephants won the game 3–0, with goals from Steve Gohouri, Aruna Dindane and Amara Diané. He was called up for Côte d'Ivoire's 2010 African Cup of Nations campaign in Angola. He was Halilhodzic's first-choice left-back instead of Arthur Boka in the first match at Group B in Cabinda on 11 January in 0:0 draw against Burkina Faso and later in the competition.
