Shrek Extra Large is an action-adventure video game released in 2002 by Digital Illusions CE. The game is based on the Shrek movie series, developed exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube. There was going to be PlayStation 2 rework of the game in 2003 but it got cancelled for both the Xbox (console) and GameCube games' low sales and negative reviews so it got replaced by Shrek Super Party.
The player controls Shrek on a quest to rescue princess Fiona. Shrek travels to a total of 10 locations doing events in each, with the exception of the final stage.
This game is actually a reworking of the Shrek game for Xbox.
Levels
Every level in the game has four different missions plus two missions consisting in catching five fairies and collecting five golden eggs, these
- Shrek's Swamp: This where the adventure begins, in this area we can find Shrek's house, the latrine, and the ogre's training pits (the jumping ground, the combat arena, and the fire pits); this is where the Magic mirror teaches Shrek all basic movements (jumping, leaping, punching, kicking, grabbing, farting and belching), including other stronger attacks like the super punch and the belly flop. In this game, Shrek's swamp is much smaller than in the movies.
- The Enchanted Forest: It's a small forest, home of the mean Merry men and a grumpy Troll. Here we can find The Merry men's Hideout and their underground vault, the Troll's bridge and the Ginger bread house. The Merry men have stolen Little Red Riding Hood's candy basket and they hide it in their secret underground vault; this is Shrek's first mission in the game. The Game Rated Is T For Teen by The ESRB
Reception
The game was generally received poorly, as IGN gave the game a 0.3 due to graphics and being a very short game.
