Shitrit, Sheetrit, Shitreet Chetrit (Hebrew: שטרית) is a Moroccan-Berber surname (family name), well-known among Jews from Morocco living in Israel, France and Canada. The original pronunciation in Moroccan Arabic is Sh-t-ret. The French spell it Chetrit which is the most acceptable spelling for this name. Many famous Moroccans in Israel carry this name, amongst them the late Minister Bechor-Shalom Chetrit, professors Shimon Chetrit and Yosef Chetrit, MK Meir Chetrit, musician Micha Chetrit and poet and writer Sami Shalom Chetrit.
