Shirpur is a city and taluka in Dhule district of Nashik Division, Maharashtra. It is located on National Highway 3, which runs from Agra in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Arunavati River and Tapi river flows through the city. Shirpur is 50 km from the city of Dhule. It houses Asia's largest and India's first gold refinery.

Transportation

The nearest prominent railway stations on the main route are Bhusaval and Chalisgaon. Nardana (Taluka Sindkheda) & Amalner is the nearest station. Bus service is available to Bhusaval, Gujarat and MP state.

The major occupation of the people is agriculture with cotton as the major product. The city has one sootgirni.

Notable people

Shirpur is the hometown (Bhatpure-Village) of Bollywood actress Smita Patil. There are a few educational institutes in Shirpur christened after her. Thalner -Village which comes under Shirpur tahsil, is the hometown of Smt. Shudhhamati, Lata Mangeshkar's mother, affectionately called 'Mai'. She was the daughter of Seth Haridas Ramdas Lad - a prosperous businessman of the town of Thalner.
