Shirelive Church (formerly Christian Growth Centre) is a Pentecostal Christian church affiliated with Australian Christian Churches, the Australian branch of the Assemblies of God denomination. The church's main campus is located in the commercial district of Sutherland, a Southern suburb of Sydney, Australia, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. It also has one smaller congregation located in Surry Hills, New South Wales. The senior pastors are Brad & Alison Bonhomme, who on 20th October 2013 were passed the leadership from Pastors Michael and Valery Murphy, who had lead since 1996. http://www.shirelive.com/about-us/our-history/

Shirelive Convention Centre.

History

The church was founded in 1957 by Pastor Norman Armstrong [3] the church grew to a size of 300 and remained small for a several decades. In the 1980s, a new building to cater for 600 people was constructed. It has since been demolished and replaced with the Shirelive Convention Centre.

In 2007 [4] the church undertook a building project which consisted of stage one, major demolition of existing auditorium, youth centre with the construction of a new 1090 seat convention centre.

Ministry

Shirelive Church runs many different ministries in addition to weekend services and events.

Shirelive Kids is the children's ministry of Shirelive Church. Shirelive Church provides a children's program for all weekend services at the Sutherland & Surry Hills campus.

Shirelive Youth is the youth ministry of Shirelive Church.

Community

Sea Change is a not for profit service run by Shirelive Church for the benefit of the community,which includes:

  • Shirelive medical centre
  • Esteem (Self esteem help for women)
  • Unlimited (addictions counseling)

Reach

Reach is the annual outreach day for the church where members go out into the community renovating houses, washing cars & supporting people in need [5]

Bushfire benefit concert

On the 28/02/2009 Shirelive Church hosted a bushfire benefit concert which raised $33000 [6] for the victims of the Victorian Bushfires. Many big names attended including Shannon Noll, Kasey Chambers, Beccy Cole, New Empire, Jason Stevens, Glenn Wheeler, and several Australian Idol finalists.

Politics

The member for Cook, Scott Morrison and family are part of the Shirelive congregation.[7]

Extension services

Shirelive Church operate one extension service through Shirelive//CITY CAMPUS in Newtown, Sydney, under Pastors Shane and Sarina Martin.
