"Shine" (alternatively titled "Medusa I") is a dance-R&B song performed by South Korean boy group Shinee. The song was included as a track in the groups fifth studio album Chapter 2. Why So Serious? – The Misconceptions of Me released on April 26, 2013 under the record label of S.M. Entertainment.[1] The song was chosen as one of three promotional singles from the album alongside the title track "Why So Serious?" and the finishing track "Can't Leave".

Production and background

"Shine" is a dance song accompanied by rough drum sounds.[2] The piece was written, arranged and composed by a team of music producers that included Andrew Choi, Red Rocket, Kim Tae Seong (also known as Ted Kim) as well as Teddy Riley, who had established ties with S.M. Entertainment after producing Girls' Generation's "The Boys" and Exo's "What Is Love" among many other songs. It was his second collaboration with Shinee after he worked with them on "Beautiful" from their previous album Chapter 1. Dream Girl – The Misconceptions of You. "Shine" was alternatively titled "Medusa I" while another Teddy Riley produced track from the album, "Dangerous", was similarly titled "Medusa II". Misfit, who had penned the lyrics of quite a handful of group's past songs, returned to contribute once again. Shinee's resident rapper Choi Minho handled the lyrics of the rap portion, in addition to three other songs on the album.
