Shillai is a small town in Northern India, Himachal Pradesh (state). It comes under District Sirmour. Shillai is located on a south east-facing hill at an elevation of 1,900 metres. The hill is called dhar shillai, and is 2,100 meters high. A degree college is proposed to be built there. The local language is Pahari.

Geography

Shillai is located on the ridge of a mountain at an altitude of 1796 m. The average temperature ranges from 20° to 30°C in summer and 5° to 20° in winter. Shillai has a temperate climate, in summer the maximum temperature ranges from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius, whereas in winter, snow sometimes fall.

Shillai is divided into two regions: the Village Shillai (lower part) and the Shillai town (upper part). There is a greenbelt of a forest all around and inside the village, which is connected with town by road as well as pedestrian roads.

History

Shillai is part of old Riasat Sirmour. The Shillai village was the headquarter of 52 other villages called khat. The chief of the khat is called Zeldar. The most powerful Zeldar was Late Sh. Dharam Singh Zeldar. He was a great personality of Shillai, the chief of the 52 villages. After the Panchayta Raj. 52 villages of Shillai khat was converted in a Panchayat. The first Gram Panchayat Pradhan was Late Sh. Meena Ram Tomar (Bhutaik). He was also a great personality of old time. Before this period in British age Shillai was more powerful village of this region. The People of Shillai are called thedau. They fought many wars with their neighbouring enemy. One of them are singtau at Koti Bounch. They remain enemy for Shillai villagers for a long time. But in 1990s a meeting was held between two communities with help of some educated persons i.e. MR. HARI RAM SHASTRI JI FROM KOTI BOUNCH, MUKHIA KOTI BOUNCH. ZELDAR SHILLAI MR PRATAP TOMAR, MR LAL SINGH NEGI SHILLAI, and the battle was come to an end.

Religious places

THARI DEVI is one of the most popular Goddess of Shillai village. PEER is another DEVTA of Shillai .The MAHASU MAHARAJ is located at Koti Village near Bali . Near by DHARMIK STHAL is Chureshwar Maharaj and Srigul at Saharan. Newly founded Srigul Mandir is located at Girnal 5 k.m. from Shillai .

TOURISM PLACE shillai is small area but its a piece of heaven here is number of beautiful place where people enjoying a lot. Chandpur Dhar peak one of the most beatifull hill spread dark forest srounding its,beautifull view of snowfall, ice skitting, here we can see the skey is kissing the Earth.SHIRGUL DEVTA (THE LOARD SHIVA) situated over here. villager from Devthal village often worship here.Devthal village also look like the piece of haven situated 25 km from shillai. shillai is full of shrine places which are not too famous at state level but we are trying to uplift them. it is a most beautiful place.

Transport infrastructure

  • Shillai is connected by State Highway No. 1 with Paonta Sahib and Rohru and with Shimla via Sona, Rajgarh, Rohnat. The city is connected with Dehradun by menus bridge, Vikasnagar in Uttrakhand.

  • Nearest Airport is Dehradun and Chandigarh.
  • A helipad is built at Shillai for Helicopter transportation near Naya Village 3 km from Shillai
