Shigeru Kasamatsu (笠松 茂, Kasamatsu Shigeru) (born July 16, 1947) is a Japanese gymnast, world champion and Olympic champion.
Olympics
Kasamatsu received a gold medal with the Japanese team at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, a silver medal in parallel bars, and bronze medals in floor exercise and horizontal bar.[1]
World championships
At the 1974 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships Kasamatsu received three individual gold medals, in all-around, floor exercise and vault, as well as winning the team competition with Japan.
At the 1978 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships he received an individual gold medal in horizontal bar and a silver medal in floor exercise, and Japan again won the team competition.
At the 1979 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships he received a silver medal with Japan in the team competition.
The Kasamatsu vault
The Kasamatsu vault is named after him. This is a vault where you do a quarter turn onto the vault, then a quarter turn off the vault to face forwards followed by a forward somersault with a half twist.
