Shawn Wayne Hatosy (born December 29, 1975) is an American actor with over 45 film and television credits to his name.
Personal life
Shawn Hatosy was born in Frederick, Maryland, to Carol (née Owens), a Loans Officer, and Wayne Hatosy, being of Hungarian-Welsh descent.[1] He grew up in the Loch Haven neighborhood[2] of Ijamsville, Maryland, attended New Market Middle School, and graduated from Linganore High School.[3] Larry James, who still resides in Frederick, MD, was his high school basketball coach. Larry says that "he was a star in his own right" on and off the court. Hatosy took his middle name, Wayne, from his father. Shawn lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Kelly, and their sons, Jordan Cassius and Leo [4]
Career
Hatosy's two most recent films are Public Enemies (2009), starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009), in which Hatosy portrays Nicolas Cage's partner, Armand Benoit, and Reckless (2013), a TV film.
Hatosy has appeared in past films such as Soldier's Girl, The Faculty, In & Out, The Cooler, Outside Providence, John Q, and 2007's Alpha Dog.[5] Hatosy auditioned for a leading role in the 1999 film Varsity Blues but lost it to James Van Der Beek.
Hatosy has appeared in such television shows as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Twilight Zone, Felicity, Six Feet Under, ER, Law & Order, Numb3rs, My Name is Earl and Hawaii Five-0. As of April 2009, Hatosy appears as Detective Sammy Bryant in the NBC/TNT television series Southland.[6] His latest successful roles were that of serial killer named Boyd Fowler on the Showtime television series Dexter.[7][8]
Hatosy was a singer in his own band, and graduated from Linganore High School in 1994. He also made an appearance in Wheatus's Music Video for their single "A Little Respect".[9]
In 2005, he performed opposite Al Pacino in Lyle Kessler's Orphans at the Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles. Hatosy also took on the title role in the La Jolla Playhouse production of The Collected Works of Billy the Kid. Off-Broadway, he starred opposite Anna Paquin in the Paul Weitz comedy Roulette.[10] He also performed in Roulette, an Ensemble Studio Theater production directed by Trip Cullman. The characters include a dizzy, distant dad (Larry Bryggman), a sweet, adulterous, alcoholic mom (Leslie Lyles), a steroid-hyped son (Shawn Hatosy), and a wise-cracking, substance-abusing teenage daughter (the Oscar-winning actress Anna Paquin).[11]
On March 22, 2011, TNT announced it has renewed Southland for a fourth season. The show stars Hatosy, Michael Cudlitz, Ben McKenzie, and Regina King, and has been averaging 2.9 million viewers during its recently wrapped third season, which featured the death of a major character.[12] Southland star Ben McKenzie (Ben Sherman) claims that his character's new partnership with Sammy (Shawn Hatosy) will be "explosive". The new season of Southland commenced filming in October 2011.[13][14][15][16][17]
