Sharyland High School is a high school in Mission, Texas, United States. The school, which is classified as "5A" by the UIL, is a part of the Sharyland Independent School District.
The school primarily serves Sharyland, an unincorporated rural area known for its agricultural and citrus industry. The school also serves portions of the cities of Alton, McAllen, Mission, Edinburg, and Palmhurst.
Mission statement
Sharyland Independent School District is to provide the highest quality education possible to all students. To the full extent of their individual abilities, students will be provided the opportunity to develop the ability to think logically, independently and creatively and to communicate effectively. The district will promote the worth and dignity of all students and encourage them to become productive and responsible members of society. Sharyland has bought 24 acres (97,000 m2) of land and may soon divide into two high schools.
Student body
During the 2006-2007 school year, Sharyland High School was Hidalgo County's largest high school with 3,261 students. Sharyland was 59% Hispanic, 33% White, 1% African-American, 7% Asian, and less than 1% Native American. The amount of students on free or reduced lunch programs was 41%.
