Shadmehr Aghili (Persian: شادمهر عقیلی) (born 27 January 1973) is an Iranian pop singer, musician, composer, music arranger, producer and song-writer,[1][2][3] and formerly an actor.

Aghili was born in Tehran, Iran. He emigrated to Canada first, but currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Shadmehr is known as the "King of Persian Pop" and is one of the most popular Persian musicians and singers.[4]

Biography

Career

Aghili started early in music and studied piano, guitar and violin graduating from Conservatory of Music in Iran.

He worked in music for a while in IRIB the official radio and television in Iran. He released his cassette album Bahare Man (بهار من) in 1997, an instrumental music album where he played piano, guitar and violin. The album Fasle ashenai (فصل آشنایی) in 1998 was another great effort with a number of collaborations. The follow up Mosafer was also well received by the public. Aghili appeared also on screen with Pare Parvaz (پر پرواز) a best-seller in Iran for that year. Shadmehr Aghili also wrote the soundtrack for the film. He had also a lead role in Shabe Berahne (شب برهنه).

Aghili immigrated to Canada where he was signed to نوامیدیا. His first album in Canada was Khiali Nist (خیالی نیست) quickly followed by Doori va Pashimani (دوری و پشیمانی), Adam Foroush (آدم‌فروش) and Popcorn (پاپ‌کورن).

2009 saw the release of highly-praised Taghdir (تقدیر) on a new contract with Century Records. In 2012, he released Tarafdaar (طرفدار) on Avang Music.

Shadmehr Aghili is a versatile artist, violinist and musician[5][6] Besides his prominent use of pianno, guitar and violin, he also uses in some recordings the santur, the mandolin,[7] trumpet, harmonica,[8] keyboard, banjo, koto.[9] Shadmehr also remains active politically recording a track in 2010, conveying his support of the Iranian Green Movement recorded over background music, encouraging Iranian people to protest against their government and using music as a tool to get to freedom and liberty. In 2012 in a collaboration with singer Ebi, he released the anti-war "Royaye Ma" (A Dream) in support of World Vision USA and World Vision Canada.
