SERTV is a public government television network, and is headquartered in Panama City, Panama, with repeaters throughout the country. The station broadcasts in NTSC and UHF formats; in Panama City also in DVB-T format.

History

The station origins begun late 70s, as closed circuit experiment of Universidad de Panama. Around 1980 station went to air, operated by Ministry of Education. Their main programming consisted in tele-educational shows, especially mathematics from Mexico, Spain and Japan.

The station was known as Canal 11, after the end of military government, was changed to RTE, on the next government was change to RTVE, since got new radio stations and UHF frequencies to operate in other parts of the country.

By 1994 RTVE was separated from Ministry of Education and became independent institution, changing name to SERTV. Under this new entity the station improve equipments, studios and programming, also they operate 3 radio stations and online broadcasting.

In 2010 SERTV became the first station to broadcast in DVB-T format in Panama.

Programming

Current programming is totally different as used to be in the 80s, with new studios; news, interviews and TV shows are produce locally. This shows are call NO Toxic Programming (Produccion No Toxica) and the most important are:

  • Recordar es Vivir (old music video clip show)
  • El Poder de la Timba (local musicians show)
  • Sala 11 (movies review show)
  • Sertv Noticias (local news)

Radio Stations

Sertv also operates 3 radio stations:

  • Nacional FM
  • Crisol FM
  • Radio Nacional de Panamá (only in AM band,)
  • Radio Panamá Internacional (online stream)
