Serdobsk (Russian: Сердобск) is a town and the administrative center of Serdobsky District of Penza Oblast, Russia, located on the Serdoba River (Don's basin) 111 kilometers (69 mi) southeast of Penza. Population: 35,393 (2010 Census);[1] 37,738 (2002 Census);[6] 43,518 (1989 Census).[7]
History
It has been known since 1699 as Serdobinskaya sloboda (Сердобинская слобода). Since the mid-18th century, it had been called Bolshaya Serdoba (Больша́я Сердоба). It was granted town status and renamed Serdob (Сердоб) in 1780; later the name changed to Serdobsk.
