From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Seosamh Ó Dónalláin, (Joseph Donnellan), was a member of the Irish Republican Army, who died July 22, 1922
Ó Dónalláin was a native of Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, and came to be involved with the volunteer movement via his brother, Tom Donnellan, who was principal teacher at Brierhill.
[citation needed]He was shot dead in an ambush at the Old Gallows near the round-about at Cemetery Cross. Tradition has it that the company lay in ambush somewhere near where the school-house now stands, and which was then rough hilly ground, and that Joe Donnellan raised his head and was shot dead there.
He worked as a clerk in Galway County Council.
