Senawang

Senawang is a satellite town located in the district of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

Geography

Senawang is situated about 7 kilometres from Seremban town. It is located in a higher level flat terrain than other towns in Seremban. The terrain is suitable for industrial.

Demographics

Bahasa Melayu — the national language, is one of the principal languages of Senawang. Other major languages spoken in the town are Mandarin, Cantonese and Tamil. English has a strong presence, especially in business and is a compulsory language taught in schools.

Retail

High number of residents in Senawang attracted developers to build commercial parks. The most notable is Senawang Commercial Park and hypermarkets such as Giant and Carrefour are now being the main attraction in Senawang.

Senawang Sentral is strategically located next to the Tuanku Jaafar Light Industrial area and this development is a natural extension of the existing matured light industrial growth area of Senawang. It is conveniently link to major highway via a 1km drive from Senawang Interchange and is just minutes away from Giant Hypermarket and Senawang Commercial Park (well known as Taipan of Senawang).

Two bus company is now servicing route from Seremban.

Rail

KTM Komuter proposed to expand commuter service to Senawang.[1] The 8.5 km (5.3 mi) extension commuter services is from Seremban to Senawang and Sungai Gadut, Negeri Sembilan. Construction is expected to complete by 2011. This will be part of the Seremban-Gemas line.[1]

Indian company IRCON International Limited was awarded the project to build and upgrade the 98km stretch between Seremban and Gemas.[2] The project had been divided into two phases – Seremban–Sg Gadut (11.3km) and Sg Gadut–Gemas (86.8km). [2]

The south-bound Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) will be extended to the new Sg Gadut station near here on 2010 Christmas Day. The new Senawang station will also be opened on the same day.[2]

Education

Malay is the language of instruction for most subjects while English is a compulsory subject and is used as the language of instruction for mathematics and the natural sciences. There are also schools which provide Mandarin and Tamil as languages of instruction for certain subjects.

In Senawang only, there are 5 elementary schools. There are several notable schools located in the city which have existed for more than a decade, such as, SMK Senawang (1992), SK Senawang (1992),SMK Taman Seri Pagi (1998)and SMK Seremban Jaya (2004) located in Seremban Jaya.
