It was included as the title track in SHINee's third Korean album repackage, titled The Misconceptions of Us, which include both the first and the second chapters.[1] The album was released on August 8, 2013 under the record label of S.M. Entertainment and distributed by KMP Holdings. The song topped charts of many music portal sites upon release.[2] "Better Off" was the other new track included in the repackage.

Composition and background

According to the South Korean music portal site Naver Music, "Selene 6.23" is a medium tempo pop-ballad integrated with elements of modern orchestra.[1] The instrumental of the piece was composed by the World-renowned classical pianist Yiruma. "Selene 6.23" is the first collaboration between Yiruma and Shinee. The music producers Ted Kim and 2Face. Kim had co-produced many other songs for various SM Town artists including TVXQ's "Destiny" and Girls' Generation's "Talk Talk" and "XYZ", BoA's "Disturbance" and Henry Lau's "I Would". Ted Kim also worked with Teddy Riley to compose many promotional songs for Shinee, like "Beautiful", "Shine (Medusa I)" and "Dangerous (Medusa II)", all three of which belong to the same album as "Selene 6.23".[3] The lyrics were penned by Shinee's own resident vocalist Kim Jonghyun, who also wrote three other tracks on the album, "Spoiler", "Orgel (Music Box)" and "Dangerous (Medusa II)". The song express the ache one experiences when his love is not reciprocated by the girl he cares for.[4]
