Selby is an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California next to Rodeo. It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west-northwest of Martinez,[2] at an elevation of 20 feet (6 m). Al Zampa, a bridge construction worker who played an integral role in the construction of numerous San Francisco Bay Area bridges, was born here in 1905.
Selby is located on the Mexican land grant Rancho El Pinole made to Ygnacio Martinez. A post office operated at Selby from 1886 to 1967.[2] The name honors Prentiss Selby, its first postmaster.[2]
