Seán McGinley (born ca. 1956) is an Irish film and television actor.

Early life

McGinley was born in Pettigo, County Donegal, Ireland where his father was a customs officer, and raised in nearby Ballyshannon.

McGinley is a graduate of University College Galway and was a member of the Druid Theatre Company from 1977–1989.[1] McGinley later starred in various movies.

Career

McGinley has appeared in such films as The General, Braveheart, Gangs of New York, Freeze Frame, Man About Dog and many more films and television series. He currently plays Malachy, the father in the Canadian father and son private detective series Republic of Doyle since 2010. He also recently appeared in Midsomer Murders as a horse whisperer.

McGinley played "China" (China Mates), the informant and old friend of the inspector in the Inspector George Gently television series, who dies in Series 4 (2011), "Goodbye China".
