Sculpteo

Sculpteo is a French company specialized in 3D printing in the cloud.[1] Sculpteo offers an online 3D printing service, using rapid prototyping and a manufacturing process [2] involving laser sintering or stereo lithography. The company was founded in June 2009 by Eric Carreel co-founder of Inventel,[3] acquired by Technicolor in 2005 [4] and Withings, Clement Moreau [5] and Jacques Lewiner.

Purpose

Sculpteo offers a 3D printing service which is accessible online.[6] Starting with a 3D file, Sculpteo creates real objects such as interior decorations, characters, robots, miniatures and models.[7]

History and background

  • The company was created in June 2009.[8]
  • In January 2011, Sculpteo launched their online 3D printing service to the public:[9] the ability to make your own avatar. Starting with simple 2D photos which are then modeled in 3D.[10]
  • In March 2011, Sculpteo launched Pro.Sculpteo an online 3D printing service for professionals.[11]
  • In June 2011, Sculpteo and 3DVIA announced that they had established a direct printing service provided by Sculpteo via the 3Dvia portal.[12][13]
  • In October 2011 Sculpteo launched a 3D silver printing service using Sculpteo's silver process™
  • In January 2012, Sculpteo launched the 3D printing Cloud Engine and the Sculpteo app at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The app transforms human data into a 3D printed object using an iOS device.[14]

Awards

• In January 2013, Sculpteo was honoured by the Consumer Electronics Show with a Best of CES Innovations Award for 3DPCase, its new 3D printing mobile application[15] 3DPcase.[16][17]

• In 2012, Sculpteo was honoured by Observeur du Design label from Observeur du Design [18] which can demonstrate how the design world can be seen to recognise the work which Sculpteo does.
