Scott Lucas (musician)
David Scott Lucas (born May 10, 1970) is best known for being the singer and guitar/bass player, as well as the only remaining original member, of the grunge band Local H.
Local H was formed in Zion, Illinois by high school friends Lucas, drummer Joe Daniels and bassist Matt Garcia in 1990. The band originally had as many as five members, but members would leave and rather than replacing them, the band just went on with the same musicians. The band was down to three members and then Garcia left, leaving just two members. They initially searched for another bass player but couldn't find what they were looking for. So, Lucas decided to add bass pickups to his guitar so that he can essentially play guitar and bass at the same time.[1] In 1999, Daniels then left the band, who was replaced by Brian St. Clair, which made Lucas the only remaining original member of the band. Local H has released several albums since, and released a cover record in 2010.[2]
Although the bulk of Lucas' work has been with Local H, he has done a little on his own. He has played some solo shows, mostly in his local Chicago area, sometimes even opening for Local H. He is also a member of the electronic band The Prairie Cartel with Blake Smith of Fig Dish.[3] In 2010 Lucas formed Scott Lucas and the Married Men, and released The Absolute Beginners EP and their debut LP, George Lassos the Moon.[4] Scott Lucas and the Married Men released their second album, Blood Half Moon in June 2012.
In February 2013, Lucas was attacked and robbed after playing a show in Russia. During the attack, Lucas lost his voice and sustained damage to his vocal cords. Lucas quickly regained his voice, but Local H was forced to cancel a string of concerts as a precaution as his vocal cords healed. Lucas has since returned to touring with Local H and The Married Men.
