Scott Robert Griffiths (born 27 November 1985) is an English footballer who plays as a full back for Luton Town in the Conference Premier. Born in Westminster, he has played in the Football League for Dagenham & Redbridge, Peterborough United, Chesterfield, Crawley Town, Rotherham United and Plymouth Argyle. He was capped twice by the England C team.

Career

Early career

Griffiths started his career playing for Basildon-based team Beech United in 1998.[2] He was signed for Southend United's youth system in 1999.[2] Griffiths left in 2001 and joined the football academy at Thurrock and Basildon College, where he played for one year.[2] Whilst playing for the academy team, they won their league and two cup competitions. He was also capped for Essex county football team, and missed out on a place in the England Under-19's team when he was injured before the final trial.

After college, aged 17, he signed for Aveley, before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge in 2004, signing a three-year contract.[3]

Dagenham & Redbridge

He made his debut as a substitute in the 90th minute against Forest Green Rovers, in 4–1 away victory in the Conference National, on 17 August 2004.[4] He was played at left back, and went on to make 18 appearances in the 2004–05 season.

Griffiths made two of appearances in the England National Game XI team. He played against the Netherlands in the last of England's European Challenge Trophy group games on 29 November 2006,[5] which saw them finish top of their group with maximum points. He also played in the 3–1 away defeat to Northern Ireland on 14 February 2007.[6]

In the 2006–07 season, Dagenham & Redbridge gained promotion to Football League Two. Griffiths played in 45 of Dagenham's 46 Conference National games.

Peterborough United

Griffiths signed on loan for Championship club Peterborough United on 23 October 2009.[7] He signed a permanent deal with Peterborough on 22 January 2010.[8]

Griffiths joined Chesterfield on loan for the beginning of the 2010–11 season, initially on a short term loan. After returning to parent club Peterborough, Griffiths rejoined Chesterfield until the end of the season and played 33 games as the Spireites won the League Two title. He was back at Chesterfield on 25 November 2011, signing a loan deal until 2 January 2012. Griffiths joined Rotherham United on loan on 10 January 2012 for the remainder of the 2011–12 season. He featured in a behind closed doors game for Forest Green Rovers in September 2012 against AFC Bournemouth and would later join Plymouth Argyle on loan in October for one month.[9][10] Having returned to Peterborough in November,[11] Griffiths left the club at the end of January after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.[12][13]

Luton Town

Griffiths signed for Conference Premier side Luton Town on 25 March 2013, linking back up with his former Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still. He signed a short-term contract until the end of the 2012–13 season.[14] After impressing in the six games he played for the club, Luton tied Griffiths to a one-year contract extension.[15]
