Scott Ferrall (born July 29, 1965)[3] is an American sports talk radio personality who currently broadcasts for CBS Sports Radio. His raspy voice is easily recognizable by his crackling.[4]
Radio History
Career Beginnings
Scott Ferrall's career began as a standard sports news reader on all-news KQV radio in his home town of Pittsburgh. When he left KQV, he drifted to Florida and found part-time radio work in the Tampa area. After a short stint with the Sports Entertainment Network (now Sporting News Radio), he became a sports host on Infinity Broadcasting sports talker WFAN-AM in New York City, and numerous other stations, including KLSX-FM in Los Angeles, KNBR-AM in San Francisco and WCNN-AM 680 The Fan in Atlanta, where his show centered on Atlanta and southeast sports. .
Ferrall got a break on WNEW by befriending Opie and Anthony and ended up taking over The Sports Guys talk show on WNEW-FM mornings where it became Sports in the Morning with Ferrall. He was then fired from WNEW for supporting Opie and Anthony when they were pulled from the airwaves for their "Sex for Sam 3" bit. Following WNEW, Ferrall went to Miami and did mornings on Beasley Broadcasting sports station WQAM-AM (home of Neil Rogers), where his show got the station fined $55,000 by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Following his exit at WQAM, Ferrall took the midday slot at the newly created Real Radio WMAX-FM (now WBZY) 105.3 Atlanta in January 2004. His stint at "Atlanta's only FM talk station" only lasted until September 2004 when the station flipped to a Latin format.
2006-2012: Howard 101 Years
For a time before moving to Sirius, Ferrall did shows on weekends for Fox Sports Radio. In March 2006, Howard Stern announced that Ferrall had joined Howard 101 on Sirius. Howard said that he originally hired Scott because he felt he was a great radio talent that had been treated poorly by the industry. Ferrall was heard M-F evenings from 8pm-12am Eastern.
On October 1st, 2012, Scott announced that he would be starting on the CBS Sports Radio Network on January 2nd, 2013. On October 2nd, 2012, Howard Stern played some "best-of" clips saying that Scott "would be missed" and was a "great guy".
2013-Present: CBS SportsRadio
Ferrall started the new year by switching to CBS SportsRadio. His show is broadcast around the country at various CBS affiliates and many Cumulus owned stations.
Media History
- Co-hosted the short-lived American Gladiators knock-off Battle Dome in 1999 along with Steve Albert.
- Voiced the in-game announcer for the Acclaim Sports video game Blast Lacrosse.
- Voiced a video game called "Vending Machine Champ" - a game by "Adult Swim Games" along with the iPhone commercials for the game.
- Ferrall was the original radio play-by-play voice of the Atlanta Thrashers, but lasted only one season in that role.
- Appeared in the movies Redbelt and Big Fan.
- Voiced in the commercials for ABC's gameshow Downfall.
- Ferrall was featured on the January 16, 2011 episode of CSI: Miami titled "Wheels Up". On the episode, he played the live trackside play-by-play announcer of a roller derby match.
