Scharf

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scharf is a surname with two distinct origins. The first and more common form is German in origin. Today, it is spread quite evenly over all of Germany. It is an "eke" name; i.e., it describes a physical attribute. In this case it means the original bearer was sharp-witted. It is also occasionally Irish in origin. In this case the name is the anglicized form of O'Scarflain. ref>Scharf Family Crest</ref>
