Sarnitsa (also transcribed Surnica, Bulgarian: Сърница) is a small town in the Pazardzhik Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 3 607 inhabitants. It gained its town status in 16 September 2003 and is part of the Velingrad municipality, located deep in the Rhodope mountains among remote virgin forests. The town has preserved its authentic atmosphere and old architecture and is a growing tourist centre, serving visitors of the Dospat Dam and surrounding forests.
