The Sarit Centre is a shopping mall located in the Westlands neighbourhood of Nairobi, Kenya.[citation needed] Opened in 1983, it is Kenya's first ever shopping mall, whose "City within a City" concept of providing everything under one roof has since irrevocably changed retailing patterns and spurred shopping mall development throughout East Africa. The centre has a 300-seater cinema, a 1,500 sq ft (140 m2) food court and a 3,000 sq ft (280 m2) expo centre, capable of hosting over 50 stands. Effectively, the Sarit Centre is an interactive shopping mall offering one-stop access to a complete range of supermarkets, stores, service outlets, entertainment, and professional and medical facilities unrivalled elsewhere in Kenya.
