Sargodha Medical College (or SMC) is a medical school located in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. SMC is a constituent college of University of Sargodha. It is affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore for conduct of examination and award of MBBS degree. The medical school also offers post graduation courses. The student intake is 100 per year, with 80 seats allocated to local students and 20 seats being reserved for international students.

The college is recognized by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, Islamabad and is accredited by College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Karachi for MCPS and FCPS degrees.

Hospital

District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) located in the centre of the city is the main attached teaching hospital with a capacity of almost 600 beds. The hospital has undergone a recent upgrade. The new building’s ground floor is constructed on 53,860 sq ft comprising out patient department, diagnostics, casualty, physiotherapy unit and ICU. The first floor is constructed on 49,900 sq ft and contains the administration block, wards, neurosurgery unit and operation theatres. The hospital offers residency programmes in various specialities including Paediatrics, Oncology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Psychiatry, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Recognition

The medical college is listed in the International Medical College Education Directory (IMED) and the Avicenna Directory for Medicine. Graduates are eligible to appear in medical licensing exams around the world, with the majority of graduates sitting the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) exam of UK.
