Sarah Benson
Sarah Benson (born 1978) is a British theater director based in New York City. She became Artistic Director of Soho Repertory Theater, Inc in 2007. [1] She is the fourth artistic director at Soho Rep. [2]
A graduate of King's College in London, she first came to the U.S. on a Fulbright award for theater direction to study at Brooklyn College, where she earned her MFA.
At Soho Rep. she directed the production of Sarah Kane’s Blasted [3] [4] for which she received an OBIE award [5] and David Adjmi's Elective Affinities in a site-specific production. [6] She has also directed new works by artists including Gregory S. Moss, Polly Stenham, and the Brooklyn-based indie-rock band The Lisps.
She produced No Dice by Nature Theater of Oklahoma which won an Obie Award in 2008, [7] the New York premiere of John Jesurun’s Philoktetes written for Ron Vawter, Young Jean Lee’s Lear and other premieres by artists including Dan LeFranc, Annie Baker, and Daniel Alexander Jones.
She serves on the board of the Brooklyn College Foundation.
