Sanjiv Buttoo

Sanjiv Buttoo is an Assistant Editor working with BBC News.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6] He has worked for BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Asian Network, has been head of Asian Programmes for BBC North West and with the BBC's Investigation Unit. Sanjiv has produced and presented Television reports for BBC North West Tonight and BBC Look North.

Sanjiv has reported, produced & presented programmes, made documentaries and writes regularly for BBC News Online. He has worked extensively in South Asia covering terrorism, natural disasters and political unrest and has specialist knowledge of the sub-continents social affairs, religion and culture. He has also worked with BBC World Service as a Producer in the Gulf, the Middle East and mainland Europe.

Career

In 2000 Sanjiv was awarded Best UK Radio Journalist at the EMMA Awards. In 2001 Sanjiv was appointed North of England reporter for the BBC Asian Network. In 2004 Sanjiv was given the additional responsibilities of reporting on events in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In 2008 Sanjiv was awarded a Sony Radio Academy Gold Award for his news documentary feature "Britain's Missing Girls" which uncovered the hidden practice of female foeticide in the United Kingdom by British born Asians. In 2012 Sanjiv was based in Jerusalem working for BBC World Service/Newsgathering in the Middle East. In 2012 Sanjiv was appointed as Assistant Editor of BBC Radio Lancashire.
