Sammy Mwaita

Sammy Komen Mwaita is a Kenyan politician. A member of the Orange Democratic Movement, he was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, winning the seat for Baringo Central Constituency and defeating the incumbent Gideon Moi (the son of former President Daniel arap Moi).[1]

Early career

Prior to entering politics, he served as the Commissioner of Lands in Kenya.

Controversy

Ngong Forest

In October 2012 Mr Mwaita and four other persons faced fraud charges over the alleged sale of a piece of land in Ngong forest to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) for Sh272 million. In the case, Mr. William Ruto and Berke Commercial Agencies, a company associated with him, Mr Joshua Kulei, a former aide of retired president Daniel Moi, Mr Sammy Mwaita (the Member of Parliament for Baringo Central Constituency) and two other firms were sued for allegedly obtaining money from KPC between August 6 and September 6, 2001.[2]

In April 2011, Mr. Mwaita was acquitted of the charges for lack of evidence after the prosecution failed to produce in court the then Finance Manager Hellen Njue to give her evidence on how she paid out the money. His co-accused were also set free.[3]

Mau Forest

He has was named by the Prime Minister as one of the people who were allocated land in the Mau forest.[4]

Personal life

He is married to Diana Mwaita and they have four children, namely Kenneth Kipruto, Valentine Kipchumba, Dennis Kiprono and Barnies Jebiwot.
