Sam Wilkinson (born 9 September 1983) is a former football player for Kidderminster Harriers F.C. Youth Team[2] and ASB Premiership sides Auckland City FC[3] and Waikato FC,[3] who is now the U14s Lead Academy Coach at Birmingham City F.C.[4] having also been a junior academy coach at West Brom Albion[1]

Wilkinson is also a Director of Premier Skills Coaching Ltd, alongside co-founder Roger Wilkinson, former New Zealand FA Director of Coaching.[5]

Career

Wilkinson is a former Kidderminster Harriers Youth player,[2] who as a 16-year-old, traveled to the UK to trial with Crystal Palace and Birmingham City,[1] later going on to make several appearances at the highest level of football in New Zealand for both Auckland City and Waikato in the New Zealand Football Championship (what is now known as the ASB Premiership).[3][3]

Wilkinson signed for leading New Zealand football club Auckland City FC in the summer, prior to the start of the 2005/06 season, being given the no.16 jersey where he stayed until the summer of 2007,[6] making only a handful of appearances.[3]

He then went on to sign for Waikato FC on a free transfer from Auckland City FC[3] in the summer of 2007, being giving the no.6 jersey.[6]

It was during the 2009/10 season where Wilkinson went on to make nearly 40 appearances in the top tier of New Zealand Football (The New Zealand Football Championship), scoring 3 goals in the process under Manager Troy Lochhead, wearing the no.12 jersey.[7]

Wilkinson has worked as a junior academy coach for West Brom Albion and has been involved in scouting programmes for West Brom in New Zealand[1]

Wilkinson is currently the U14s Academy Coach at Birmingham City F.C.[4]
