Sam Soliman (born 13 November 1973) is an Australian boxer of Coptic Egyptian descent. Soliman began his boxing career after studying multiple forms of martial arts, such as Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Kick-Boxing.

Martial arts career

Soliman is a former ISKA and WKA kickboxing champion.[1]

Amateur boxing career

Soliman compiled an Amateur Record consisting of 84 fights, with 11 losses[2]

Professional boxing career

Soliman turned professional at the cruiserweight level in 1997 at the age of 23. Soliman fought twelve rounds for the Australian cruiserweight championship in only his second fight. He gained a worldwide audience when he defeated Raymond Joval after a twelve-round unanimous decision on 17 July 2004.

A rematch with fellow Australian Anthony Mundine, against whom Soliman suffered a split decision loss earlier in his career, ended in a ninth-round TKO loss for Soliman. Soliman was moving up from his regular division at middleweight to take on Mundine at super middleweight, for the then-vacant WBA title. Despite suffering a knockdown in round two, Mundine went on to stop Soliman in the ninth.

Soliman was one of the boxers featured on the third season of the boxing reality TV series The Contender, which premiered 4 September 2007 on ESPN. During the show he captured third place after defeating Wayne Johnsen, with Soliman's only loss coming via a competitive unanimous decision to Sakio Bika, the eventual winner of The Contender season three.

Since 2009, with both Soliman and his management having made the decision to campaign at his natural division at middleweight, he is undefeated with seven consecutive victories against notable challengers such as Garth Wood, Eromosele Albert and Giovanni Lorenzo (the latter of which lead to him becoming the #1 challenger). His last four fights have been won by unanimous decision. He is currently managed by David Stanley.
