Samuel Stephen "Sam" Mantom (born 20 February 1992 in Stourbridge, England) is an English footballer playing as a midfielder for Walsall.
Career
Prior to joining West Bromwich Albion he was a youth player for Walsall F.C. Youth and Reserves where he was spotted by, and persuaded to move to, WBA, a sum which supposedly cost the club circa £20,000 to end his existing agreement with Walsall.
After regularly appearing for the Baggies' reserve side, he joined Icelandic top flight side Haukar playing in the (Úrvalsdeild) Icelandic Premier league during 2010.[3] He went on to sign his first professional deal with West Brom in May 2010.[4]
He made his debut for West Brom in the Football League Cup game against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on 24 August 2010, which ended in a 2–0 win for the Baggies.[5]
On 23 November he joined Tranmere Rovers on a month long emergency loan,[6] making his debut the same day for the club in a Football League match against Hartlepool.[7]
On 17 February 2011 he joined Oldham Athletic on a month long emergency loan.[8] Mantom made his debut for the Latics against Bristol Rovers.[9] He returned to West Bromwich Albion after making four appearances without scoring.[10] On 6 March 2012, Mantom signed for Football League One side Walsall on loan.[11]
On 9 November 2012, Mantom signed for Walsall for his second loan spell the League One side.[12]
On 11 January 2013, Mantom made his loan move to Walsall permanent on a free transfer, after West Brom agreed to cancel his contract with the club. Mantom signed an 18-month contract.[13]
International career
Mantom has international experience after being a member of the England Under-17 squad.[6]
