The Salina Bombers are a charter member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League set to begin play in the 2013 season. Based in Salina, Kansas, the Bombers will play their home games at the Bicentennial Center.

The Bombers are the first-ever indoor/arena football team to call Salina home.

History

As early as October 2, 2012, a Salina team had appeared on the CPIFL website. However, their information was quickly taken down because no arena lease had yet been signed.[1][2]

Finally, the team was officially announced on October 18, 2012, having signed a five-year lease with the Bicentennial Center.

Team Name

A "name-the-team" contest took place in October on the Bicenntenial Center's website, with nominations being accepted until October 25.[3][4] That day, three finalists were announced:

  • Salina Storm
  • Salina Bombers
  • Salina Shock

Voting on the three finalists continued until October 31,[5] with the winning name of the Salina Bombers having been announced on November 1.[6]
