Salem Elementary School is a public school in Apex, North Carolina and a part of the Wake County Public School System. The school operates on a year-round calendar.[1]

In March 2012, the school celebrated "International Space Station Day" with a contact with astronaut Don Pettit aboard the ISS. 14 students representing all grades in the school asked questions of Pettit about research and life aboard the station. The event capped off a month long schoolwide effort to incorporate space into lessons across all subjects.[2][3] [4]

The school is known for its "Skip-Its" jump rope team which perform in area schools, parades, museums and a half time at basketball games. Other extra curricular activities include a chess club and Scrabble club started by the school's media specialist, Sandra Wagner. In 2009, Andy Hoang & Erik Salgado went on to win 1st place in the National School Scrabble Championship in Providence winning $10,000. The school has since grown its Scrabble Program under Sandra Wagner, the media specialist, and a donation from 2009 Scrabble Champion Andy Hoang. [5]The club has many young kids from kindergarten to 5th grade. Other extra-curricular activities include chorus and recorder choir. The school also has an Odyssey of the Mind club where students work in teams to come up with a creative solution to a problem. [6]

Salem Elementary's current principal is Debbie Edwards.[7]
