Casting
The pre-production started in September 2012 with an earlier production company, and in November 2012, after Anto Joseph Film Company took the project, Dulquer Salmaan was roped in to play the lead role.[5] Unlike his other roles he was cast to play a young lad who works in a mobile phone shop.[6] Many heroines were considered to play the heroine, but Nazriya Nazim was finalized. Nazriya who was then busy in Tamil with Dhanush's Naiyandi, Arya's Raja Rani and Jai's Thirumanam Ennum Nikka, had joined the sets on the first day.[7] Jacob Gregory who had acted alongside Dulquer Salmaan in the film ABCD, was cast by the friend ship of two actors to play a prominent role.[8][9] Tamil comedian Santhanam was signed by the director to play a Tamilian,[10] who is a mobile application developer. Sharath A. Haridaasan said, "Santhanam plays Alakarsami, a complex and mysterious personality, who at times even triggers doubt as to whether he is a human being" and that it was a "prominent role that manoeuvres the story to its turning point".[11]
Filming
The shoot of the film had begun on 17 August 2013 at Kozhikode.[12] The film's primary shooting locations were Kozhikode, Kodungaloor, Kottayam and Coimbatore.[13] The first schedule of shooting of 'Salala Mobiles' ended on 10 September. The second schedule started on 25 September after a 14 day break, and went on till mid October.
