Sahpau is a town and a nagar panchayat in Hathras district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Sahpau had a population of 7965, with males constituting 54% of the population and females 46%. Sahpau's average literacy rate of 57% is lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 44%. 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Sahpau has been known for its large number of Clod storage and potato cultivations. It is one of the richest place in nearby villages in terms of cultivation, but still there is a lack of awareness of good practices of irrigation, cultivation, selection of seeds, and use of fertilizers.[citation needed] There is a lack of support from government to subsidise the irrigation and cultivation material.[citation needed]
Sahpau is also known for the goddess Devi Maa Bhadrakaali who, according to popular legend, turned the whole BARAAT of a girl in to stone. The stone can still be seen in the temple of maa Bhadrakali.
