Sahil Suhaimi is a Singaporean footballer who plays naturally as a forward and can also play in the attacking midfielder role behind the forward and is touted to be among the exciting new generation of Singapore footballers. Sahil is regarded as Singapore`s "Luis Suarez" with his dribbles, flair and technical abilities on the ball along with a goalscoring touch.[1]
Club career
Sahil Suhaimi made his S.League debut as a 17 year old against Etoile FC in 2010 as a midfielder and impressed against the more physical French side but National Service has restricted his appearances.
Breakthrough
During the 2012 Inaugural Nexlions Cup on December 2012, then 20 year old Sahil made appearances for Singapore U23 against Liverpool FC and Manchester United FC U23 sides with him scoring Singapore U23 only goal in the tournament against United. Despite rumors of Warriors FC scouting Sahil during the tournament, Courts Young Lions signed Sahil as Warriors FC signed Sufian Anuar from LionsXII instead.[2]
It proved to a breakthrough for Sahil as he impressed after signing for Courts Young Lions during the 2013 football season even during friendlies as Sahil scored in both games against Malaysian giants, Johor Darul Takzim who bosted a side with former Italian U23, Spanish and Malaysian internationals such as Simone Del Nero, Daniel Güiza and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha in both in both home and away which ended 1-1 for the Young Lions. Throughout the 2013 S.League season, Sahil impressed with his flair, technical ability, dribbles and his willing attitude to pressure opposing defenders to an extend that Singapore U23 head coach Aide Iskandar saying Sahil as a very special player." Personal Life
Sahil Suhaimi born 8 July 1992 (age 21), is from Singapore. Sahil was a pupil at Fowlie Primary School and Tanjong Katong Primary School. He is the second child in his family. He has an older sister who is 2 years older.
International career
Sahil Suhaimi earned his first international cap against Laos on 10 October 2013 as a substitute in the second half after Singapore national team head coach, Bernd Stange was impressed with Sahil.[4] During the 2013 SEA Games, Sahil played a key role as Singapore U23 won the Bronze with goals against the U23 sides of Laos, Vietnam and Brunei and finished as joint top scorer in the tournament alongside fellow international, Hariss Harun.[5]
