Sabro Korsvejskolen is a Danish public folkeskole that was founded in 1964. It is located in Sabro, as part of the Aarhus Municipality. A "folkeskole" is a type of school in Denmark covering the entire period of compulsory education from the age of 6 to 16.[1][2]

Overview

The school is a combination of pre-school, primary and lower secondary education.

The school teaches from 0 to 9 grade, a total of 10 years of schooling. The average class size is 15-20 students in the middle school and 10-17 students in the high school. The school enrolls some 500 students.

The school is linked up with a recreation center, massive sports halls, a canteen, a dentist, and a health care center. The canteen offers healthy breakfasts such as: salads, sandwiches, bread, vegetables, fruit, milk and juice.

The school has a tradition of showing a theater every year made by the students of the 8 grade, but is sometimes cancelled due to shortage of money.

Grade system

In 2006 a new grade system was introduced, 7-trins-skalaen ("7-step-scale"; colloquially dubbed the 12-scale), designed to be compatible with the ECTS grading scale.[3]

History

The school is named after a small complex between two old city roads, Viborgvej and Stillingvej, north west of Aarhus. The school was inaugurated in 1964 under the name Sabro-Korsvejskolen but was later changed to Sabro Korsvejskolen without hyphen. Sabro Korsvejskolen directly translated to English means "Sabro Crossroads School"

Creation

The school was meant to replace smaller schools in Lading, Skjoldelev, Fårup, Borum og Lyngby. Early in the political process the more central city of Mundelstrup was considered, but not accepted.

Municipality reform

At the local government reform in 1970, Lading was made a part of Hammel Municipality and the rest part of Aarhus Municipality. The original school community was abolished and the school controlled from Aarhus Municipality.

After a few years the city council of Hammel decided that the children from this municipality should stop going to school in Sabro and instead transported to the Municipality's capital.
