Sabella spallanzanii is a species of marine polychaete worms in the family Sabellidae.[1] It is known as a pencil worm.[2]

Description

Pencil worms grow from 15cm up to 25cm in total length. They have stiff sandy tubes which protrude from the sand, and a simple striped whorl of ciliated feeding tentacles.[2]

Distribution

These animals are found off the southern African Namaqua coast to Port Elizabeth, as well as in the Mediterranean. They are found in 12-27m of water.[2]

Ecology

These animals live in sand.[2]
