SRM University has a special arrangement to transfer students at the end of the third year for a comprehensive two-year BS + MS program at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. SRM also has a dual degree program with the University of Warwick (UK) in Plant Biotechnology. A similar program is being worked out in co-operation with Dundee University (UK).[6]

SRM - CMU MSIT Program

In the SRM-CMU collaboration, students will start the program at the SRM campus in Chennai. After one year of study at SRM the students move to CMU campus in Pittsburgh, USA and complete the program requirements. Applicants will be mutually reviewed and accepted by CMU and SRM faculty.

The Camber Racing team was formulated in September 2009 to compete in on-track student events organised by SAE India and Formula SAE. SAE or the 'Society of Automotive Engineers' is the world governing body on automotive and related fields. With passion and commitment, the students work as a team to design, build, test and compete an open-wheeled formula style race car. Since the teams formation, three such cars have been developed  : CR800, LJM01, The Beast. Keeping in mind future competitions, the team has started work on the next car: "B13".

SUPRA SAEINDIA competition is organised by SAE INDIA and is the largest student engineering competition in India. The concept behind the competition is that a fictional manufacturing company has contacted a design team to develop a small Formula style race car. The prototype is to be evaluated for its potential. The target marketing group for the car is the nonprofessional weekend autocross racer. Each team designs and produces a prototype based on well laid down rules and regulations. The competition comprises seven events: Cost and Manufacturing Analysis, Presentation, Design, Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross, and Endurance.

The Formula SAE competition is organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers and is held in UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria, Australia, Spain, Brasil.

In 2011, in SUPRA SAEINDIA competition, the team was ranked 2nd in Marketing Presentation and finished in 24th out of 40 team participating. In 2012, in SUPRA SAEINDIA competition, the team was awarded the overall 1st prize out of 65 teams with other awards such as 2nd in Endurance event, 2nd in Autocross event and 2nd in Skid-pad event.

Webarch Club

There is a webarch club in SRM University where students develop website for various cultural and technical fest at SRM university.Mostly they handle the online activities related to the National Level Techfest Aaruush which is conducted every year.

Arts and culture

Cultural programs are organised several times during the year to encourage creative pursuits and nurture talent. Students form teams and share responsibility in organising the events.

Examination system

The academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester has three internal exams and one final exam (semester exam) for all theory subjects. Laboratory courses usually have one internal exam followed by the final exam. Most of the exams are theoretical, similar to other engineering colleges in India.

University status

The university is approved by the University Grants Commission and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).[9] It has been given an overall grade of A+ by NAAC.[citation needed]

The university has been voted as India's no. 1 private university several times by Z news and Deccan Chronicle in the last few years.[citation needed]
