SPUDCO
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SPUDCO, the Saskatchewan Potato Utility Development Company, was a pseudo public private partnership between SaskWater and Lake Diefenbaker Potato Corporation (LDPC). It was created in 1996 and had signs of trouble from the start. The fall-out from the numerous scandals lead to the bankruptcy of LDPC and subsequent lawsuit which was settled for $7.9 million CAD and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) investigation. It left a black mark on the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party for years to follow that still continues till today. SPUDCO finally folded in 2000.
