Søren Skou (born August 20, 1964) has been the CEO of Maersk Line since January 2012. On December 19, 2011, it was announced that we would he would take over this role from Eivind Kolding, effective from 16 January 2012.[1] From 2001 to 2011 Søren Skou was the CEO of Maersk Tankers.
Søren Skou became a partner of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group in 2007 and has been a member of the Executive Board of the company since 2001.[2]
Early career
Skou joined Maersk Line in 1983. Between 1983 and 1994 he held various positions in the Copenhagen, Denmark and New York, USA offices. In 1994, he moved to China to work there as Maersk Line’s Operations Manager before returning to Copenhagen to take up the post of Director in 1998. The following year, he transferred to Maersk Tankers where he held key executive positions until his appointment as CEO in 2001. During his time as CEO of Maersk Tanker, Søren Skou also had the responsibility for Damco, Maersk Procurement, Maersk Container Industry and the Groups’ ownership share in DFDS and Hoegh Autoliners.[3]
Søren is a graduate in Management from Copenhagen University, as well as having an MBA (Honours) from IMD, Switzerland.[3]
Private life
Søren Skou lives in Vedbæk, just outside Copenhagen, with his wife Lene and their three children. On more than one occasion he has expressed his interest for bicycling.
