Ryman Arts is a non-profit fine arts education organization that is based in Los Angeles, California. Recently named a National Program of Excellence by the President’s Committee on the Arts & Humanities, it is one of Southern California’s leading FREE arts education program for underserved youth and a national model for transforming the lives of young artists. Founded in 1990 with just 12 students, Ryman Arts began in honor of legendary Disney artist and mentor Herbert D. Ryman. Since then, the program had expanded to included roughly 300 students from throughout the region. Meeting a vital need to foster the artistic and personal growth of extremely gifted high school students, the program provides rigorous sequential instruction in foundational drawing and painting skills. Ryman Arts weekend classes are held on the campus of Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles on Sundays and California State University, Fullerton in Orange County on Saturdays. Students choose which location to attend. Ryman Arts builds self-discipline and confidence, and provides college and career guidance, positioning our students for future success. Almost all go on to college, and many pursue careers in the arts.

Serving the rich diversity of southern California youth, the program includes teens from over 130 zip codes who attend public and private high schools. Based on zip code analysis, more than 80% of the youth are from low-income communities.
