Rydalmere railway station is situated in a suburb in Sydney's north western suburbs on the Carlingford Line. This station is not heavily used. The make up of patrons that use this station include local residents, workers from the surrounding industrial area and also students who attend the neighbouring Parramatta Campus of the University of Western Sydney. The station has a single platform of 4-cars length on a single track line. To reach the other side of the line, pedestrians need to utilise the footpath on the Victoria Rd bridge, which has stairs at either end.

Under the Clearways project, a passing loop was planned to have been built at Rydalmere in order to allow two trains per hour to operate on the line. However, this project was officially cancelled by the State Government in 2008.[1]

The Epping to Chatswood railway line was originally intended to continue from Epping to Parramatta, and would have travelled along the existing Carlingford line through Rydalmere, which would be widened from single-track to dual-track. However, in August 2003 the NSW Transport Minister, Michael Costa, announced that the Epping-Parramatta section would be postponed indefinitely.

Rydalmere is the 172nd most patronised railway station in Sydney (out of a total of 176 stations), with an average of 190 passengers boarding per day.


History

Victoria Road station opened on 20 April 1896 and was renamed Rydalmere in 1901.[2]

The station is served by one train per hour each way, with additional trains during weekday peak hours.
