Ryan Gerard Wheeler (born July 10, 1988) is an American professional baseball third baseman with the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Career
Wheeler attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.
The Diamondbacks drafted Wheeler in the fifth round of the 2009 MLB Draft. MLB.com rated Wheeler the 18th best prospect in the Diamondbacks' organization heading into the 2012 season.[1] Wheeler was named the PCL's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 29.[2]
On July 20, 2012, he was called up for the first time by the Diamondbacks.[3]
Wheeler was traded to the Colorado Rockies on November 20, 2012 in exchange for Matt Reynolds. He was beat out by Chris Nelson for the Rockies starting third baseman job at the beginning of the season, and is unlikely to play much at all in the future with Nolan Arenado having been called up.
