Ryan Gauld (born 16 December 1995 in Aberdeen) is a Scottish footballer who currently plays as a attacking midfielder for Scottish Premiership club Dundee United and the Scotland national under-21 football team.
Club career
Dundee United
Gauld joined Dundee United's youth setup in 2006, after being a youth player for Brechin City. He made his league debut as a substitute in the final match of the 2011–12 season, a 2–0 win against Motherwell.[2] United manager Peter Houston praised Gauld after a goalless draw against Ross County in September 2012.[3]
On 24 January 2013, Gauld signed an extended contract keeping him at the club until January 2016 and in April he made his full debut against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park and marked the occasion with his first senior goal in a game that ended 1-1.[4] On 4 November 2013, his contract was further extended, to run until May 2016.[5]
On 15 December Manchester United manager David Moyes stated that he wanted to personally "scout" Gauld, and take the opportunity to run the rule over the potential of other young Tannadice stars such as defenders John Souttar and Andrew Robertson.[6] However, in the following day (which was also the day of his 18th birthday) Gauld's contract was further extended, to run until May 2017.[7]
International career
On 6 November 2013, Gauld was called into the Scotland under–21 squad for the first time, for the match against Georgia in November 2013.[8] He has also been capped eight times at under–19 level scoring two goals.[9]
