On 27 January 2012 Brunt joined Football League One side Tranmere Rovers on a months loan.[10][11] He made his Football League debut in a 1–1 draw against Huddersfield Town.[12] He scored his first professional goal in a 1–1 draw with Charlton Athletic at Prenton Park.[13] Brunt extended his loan with Rovers for a second month.[14]
In July 2012 Brunt joined Leyton Orient on a six-month loan.[15] On 13 September 2012, Brunt scored his first goal for Orient in a 1–0 win over Brentford.[16] He ended his loan spell with Orient having scored three goals in 22 appearances.
